Rules
Uniform- Must be clean. No tears in top or pants. All colors and makes allowed. No Karate style Gi’s allowed
Unintentional Contact- (i.e. accidental blow while attempting a sub escape.) Judge’s discretion on intent. If the intent of the contact was to injure, it is automatic disqualification.
Bleeding- If bleeding occurs the competitor has 5 minutes to get it under control. If the bleeding continues, the competitor will have an additional two minutes to stem it. If it continues after that, disqualification.
Bodily fluids- Spitting on the mat or floor, vomit or any other excretion on the mat is an automatic disqualification.
PLEASE WEAR SANDALS OR SHOES OFF THE MAT! ESPECIALLY IN THE BATHROOMS!
Stalling- No stalling penalties in the Kids Divisions. In Teen and Adult divisions- 1st time warning, any subsequent will result in 1 point being given to your opponent per time. No DQ.
Walking off the mat to escape submission- 1st offense; restart in the middle with submission on. 2nd offense; DQ.
SLAMMING IS AN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION IN ALL DIVISIONS!
If you refuse a match for any reason, you will be immediately disqualified from the division and your ability to compete in the Absolute Division will be summarily revoked.
The judges are volunteers from many different academies, please be courteous. If you have an issue with a call, yelling and screaming will only make you look like a butt. This is a martial art based on respect. As a coach/parent/spectator you will be held to this standard. If you are deemed overly distracting, disrespectful, or using inappropriate language, your athlete will be disqualified because of your actions and you may be asked to leave.
Kids/Teens: 7 & under, points only. 8-10 coach discretion.
All kids- No neck cranks, trachea attaches (Ezekial) or submissions below the waist in Gi and No Gi.
Adult Gi: no neck cranks, no heel hooks, no twister, no 50/50, no Boston crab, no compression locks/slicers, No slamming from the guard, inside triangle or armbar
White belts- No attaches below the waist
Blue belts- Straight ankle locks are allowed
Purple and up- add straight kneebar, figure 4 toe holds and wrist locks
No Gi:
Beginners- No- heel hooks, neck cranks, 50/50, twister, Boston crab or compression locks/slicers.
OK- Straight knee bars and figure 4 toe holds.
Intermediate- add heel hooks, 50/50, neck cranks and compression locks/slicers
Advanced- Add twister.
Penalties
Minor Penalties:
1st offense- Verbal Warning
2nd offense- Opponent receives advantage
3rd offense- Opponent receives 2 points
4th offense- Disqualification
Purple and up- add straight kneebar, figure 4 toe holds and wrist locks
Major Penalties: Disqualification (at judges discretion)
Coaching Penalties: If any coach disrespects a judge, opposing coach or opponent, or in any way obstructs the match in progress, his competitor will be summarily disqualified from the match. Coaches must stay on the edge of the mat by scoring table.
Points
Points- Gi (points only awarded if position is held for 3 seconds)
Takedown- 2 points. Must follow up and maintain contact with opponent to gain points. If opponent attempts to jump guard during takedown, points will be awarded
Pass guard- 3 points. Arms must be clear of legs
Sweep- 2 points. Points will be awarded if your butt hits the ground and you end in neutral position.
Mount- 4 points.
Rear Mount- 4 points. Both hooks in. No points awarded for immediate body triangle.
Knee on Stomach- 2 points. No points awarded if knee is touching the ground.
Other:
2 points will be awarded to the competitor applying the strong submission attempt if their opponent moves them from the competition area to avoid submission.
No points are awarded for reversals. (i.e. side control reversed- no sweep points awarded)
Points are not awarded for “side control”. Points are awarded for passing the guard.
Points- No Gi
Takedown, pass guard, sweep, mount, rear mount, or knee on stomach - 2 points. Rear mount superior position without hooks counts as well as body triangle.
Other:
2 points will be awarded to the competitor applying the strong submission attempt if their opponent moves them from the competition area to avoid submission.
Advantages will be awarded for strong submission attempts and side control in turtle (at judge’s discretion)
No points are awarded for reversals. (i.e. side control reversed- no sweep points awarded)

Submissions
If the judge feels that a competitor is in serious danger of injury, the judge will stop the match.
If the opponent cries out, it is considered a verbal submission
We will always do our best to prevent injury- if your child is double-jointed or “gets out of that submission all the time” tell them not to get there in the first place.
Time Limits
Kids- 3 minutes
Teens- 4 minutes
Adult white belts- 4 minutes
Blue Belts- 5 minutes
Masters Division - 5 Minutes
Purple/Brown- 6 minutes
Black Belt/Absolute Division 10 minutes. Submission only! If no winner declared there will be a 3 minute OT. If no winner, it will be Judges decision
